چکیده

The inverse problem of determining the unknown coefficient of the non-linear differential equation of torsional creep is studied. The unknown coefficient g = g(ξ2) depends on the gradient ξ := |∇u| of the solution u(x), x ∈ Ω ⊂ Rn , of the direct problem. It is proved that this gradient is bounded in C-norm. This permits one to choose the natural class of admissible coefficients for the considered inverse problem. The continuity in the norm of the Sobolev space H1(Ω) of the solution u(x; g) of the direct problem with respect to the unknown coefficient g = g(ξ2) is obtained in the following sense: ‖u(x; g) − u(x; gm)‖1 → 0 when gm(η) → g(η) point-wise as m → ∞. Based on these results, the existence of a quasi-solution of the inverse problem in the considered class of admissible coefficients is obtained. Numerical examples related to determination of the unknown coefficient are presented.

Crack analysis of an orthotropic circular bars reinforced by a magnetic coating under Saint-Venant torsion

This paper presents an analytical solution for an orthotropic circular cross section bar with a magnetic coating weakened by multiple arbitrary oriented cracks under Saint-Venant torsion by means of the distributed dislocation technique. At first, the solution of the orthotropic bar with a magnetic coating weakened by a Volterra-type screw dislocation is achieved with the aid of the finite Four...

An inverse coefficient problem related to elastic-plastic torsion of a circular cross-section bar

An inverse coefficient problem related to identification of the plasticity function g(η) from a given torque τ is studied for a circular section bar. Within the deformation theory of plasticity the mathematical model of torsion leads to the nonlinear Dirichlet problem −∇ · (g(|∇u|2)∇u) = 2φ, x ∈ Ω ⊂ R2; u(s) = 0, s ∈ ∂Ω . For determination of the unknown coefficient g(η) ∈ G, an integral of the...

Elastoplastic torsion of hollow FGM circular shaft

In many cases, a torsional shaft may be a thick-walled radially inhomogeneous cylindrical object. The hollow shafts made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are such kind of compositions which were studied in this paper. Cylindrical FG shafts are composed of ceramic and metallic parts with power function distribution across the radial direction. The ceramic phase is isotropic elastic and th...

Torsional rigidity of an elliptic bar with multiple elliptic inclusions using a null-field integral approach

Following the success of using the null-field integral approach to determine the torsional rigidity of a circular bar with circular inhomogeneities (Chen and Lee in Comput Mech 44(2):221–232, 2009), an extension work to an elliptic bar containing elliptic inhomogeneities is done in this paper. For fully utilizing the elliptic geometry, the fundamental solutions are expanded into the degenerate ...

Parameter determination in a parabolic inverse problem in general dimensions

It is well known that the parabolic partial differential equations in two or more space dimensions with overspecified boundary data, feature in the mathematical modeling of many phenomena. In this article, an inverse problem of determining an unknown time-dependent source term of a parabolic equation in general dimensions is considered. Employing some transformations, we change the inverse prob...
